5 Must-Have Bathroom Accessories for Luxury Bathrooms

When planning a new bathroom or undertaking a bathroom renovation, accessories are often not at the top of the planning priority list for most people.

While it’s important to get all the ‘big ticket’ items measured up and budgeted for, such as the bath and shower, don’t forget to include accessories too. Otherwise, you might suddenly find you haven’t allowed any wall space for a towel rack or you’ve under-budgeted your project.

The cost of all your basic accessories such as toilet roll holder and brush set won’t set you back much. But if you want your bathroom to have more than just the essentials, you’ll need to set aside some extra funds. Depending on the size of your bathroom and the brands you’re interested in, you may want to consider allowing for around $1,000 - $3,000 for accessories if you’re going for that modern, high-end bathroom look.

So, here are 5 accessories that you should consider when planning your next luxury bathroom project:

Heated towel rails

There are few better feelings in life than stepping out of a steamy bath or shower on a cold day and wrapping yourself up in a warm, fluffy towel. It’s the ultimate in luxury.

But there’s actually more to heated towel rails than just keeping your towels warm. In fact, their primary purpose is to keep your towels dry.

Drying out towels on normal rails can seemingly take forever, especially if there are a lot of used towels in the one bathroom and if the climate you live in is either particularly humid or chilly.

A heated towel rail will significantly speed up the drying process, ensuring you never again have to step out of an invigorating shower only to then wrap yourself in a half-soggy towel.

Many models even come with a remote timer function so you can set them to turn on/off at certain times of the day/night, ensuring you’re not wasting electricity when it’s not needed.

If you have a bigger family, we’d suggest having at least two sets of 800mm towel rails. A normal towel rail of good quality will usually set you back around $200 whereas heated ones tend to cost around $500. The most expensive models can push upwards of $1000. But indulging in this accessory can be well worth it in the long run if it makes your daily bathroom time that bit more enjoyable and relaxing.

Stylish robe hooks

Robe hooks are something that is often overlooked when people are picking out their bathroom accessories. But for a small outlay, these little hooks can offer functionality and a touch of luxe.

While robe hooks can be used for hanging up extra towels if there isn’t enough towel rack space, they are especially ideal for keeping fluffy bathrobes within easy reach. Plus, with so many different colours and designs to choose from, it’s easy to find a hook that will add that little extra element of style to your bathroom.

Wall hung soap dispenser

Bathroom vanities are prone to becoming a bit cluttered if you don’t have the right kind of accessories or storage to keep everything in order. One luxury yet inexpensive accessory that you should consider is a wall hung liquid soap dispenser.

There are so many different styles, shapes and colours of wall hung dispensers available, making it incredibly easy to pick one that matches your bathroom style.

Not only do they free up countertop space and can look great when coordinated with your bathroom scheme, they are a more hygienic option for washing your hands when paired with touchless tapware. Plus, the bottom of the dispenser won’t get all ‘gunky’ on your countertop, which means less mess and less cleaning for you.

Smart mirror

A bathroom mirror is just a mirror, right? Well, not really anymore.

As society continues to embrace smart home technologies such as Alexa and robotic vacuums, many people are looking for ways to incorporate these technologies in their bathrooms. This has led to the trend of smart bathroom mirrors which are now a must-have accessory for modern bathrooms.

There are many models available on the market today with luxury features such as adjustable lighting, Bluetooth connectivity, in-built desmiter settings and magnification settings.

These mirrors are extremely streamlined and stylish, so they can be easily incorporated into any type of bathroom design.

Modern shower storage

Stainless steel shower caddies have long been the norm for keeping shampoos, soaps and sponges organised and in order. But there are other more stylish designs and colours these days, such as matte black caddies, corner baskets, in-built niches and glass shelves. Not only do these modern options look fantastic, but don’t use suction cups which can be notoriously unreliable.

So don’t just go straight for the stainless steel caddy if you can avoid it. There are plenty of other accessory options out there - from colourful to minimalistic. Make sure that whatever you pick complements the other colours and textures you’ve used throughout your bathroom as a whole.
